Purchaser / Buyer

Torquemeters is a specialist engineering and production company with a worldwide reputation as an innovator in low volume, high performance solutions for torque measurement, power transmission and test bed systems across various industries such as aerospace, automotive, energy and oil & gas. Each year we export between 80-90% of our bespoke goods outside of the UK.

We are looking for a purchaser/buyer to ensure products are sourced at the right time, quality, price and specification in line with approved requests, budget and predicted stock level. Experience in the procurement of high-quality, traceable, precision engineered & specialist processed materials highly desirable. Ideally, with several years of relevant procurement experience in a similar sector and some level of CIPS qualification.

Reporting to: Managing Director - Operations

The role

  • Managing material requirements planning (MRP) using the Company ERP system (Exel Efacs)
  • Negotiating with suppliers to achieve best value and performance
  • Conducting supplier reviews and drafting supplier contracts
  • Sourcing and onboarding new suppliers
  • Ensuring cost targets / budgets are achieved
  • Monitoring & expediting supplier delivery performance
  • Building strong, lasting supplier relationships

Key Skill Requirements

  • Proven experience purchasing materials for a busy production environment
  • Strong negotiation and supplier management skills
  • Able to work in a fast-paced, pressurised environment while maintaining accuracy
  • Someone who thrives with autonomy and takes ownership of results
  • Proficient IT and communication skills
  • Ability to foster productive work relationships and collaborate well within a small team
  • Be flexible regarding ad-hoc tasks that may arise within a SME

Core hours of work are 37 hours per week, Monday to Thursday 8.30am-5.15pm, with ½ hour lunch break & Friday 8.30am-12.30pm.

Five weeks paid annual leave plus statutory Bank Holidays.

Torquemeters premises are situated in a rural location not served by public transport and therefore your own transport will be required.
